THE
FORGING
8.23am Tuesday 17 April 2012
A 0.97km early morning walk—mapped digitally courtesy of Nike+— collecting fallen needles from the pine trees lining Seven Mile Beach. Chris sat beneath the old Casuarina tree outside Plantana, to create 'the one ring'—along with four backup rings—by carefully entwining one young and one old needle. The fragile rings were secretly stored in Chris' sunglasses case.
THE
FIRST
TRY
6.42pm Tuesday 17 April 2012
A seat in the evening shade of the old Casuarina Pine stationed along Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach. A view out across the violet blue Caribbean Sea.
A ring carefully woven from green and gold needles carpeting the white sands.
A perfect moment.
An American firing up a BBQ.
Smoke.
Teary eyes.
A proposal foiled by the sweet smell of BBQ pork ribs.
THE
SECOND
ATTEMPT
11.32am Wednesday 18 April 2012
A seat in the morning shade of the old Casuarina pine stationed along Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach. A view out across the crystal blue Caribbean Sea. A ring carefully woven from green and gold needles carpeting the white sands. Topped with a tiny garnet flower.
A proposal.
An acceptance.
Laughter.
Teary eyes.
The beginning to a new adventure.
